New Delhi: In a thoughtful show of sympathy, Gurugram-based marketing firm Marketing Moves and Marketing Moves agency have granted its employees a day off to recover from the emotional impact of India’s loss to Australia in the Cricket World Cup final.
After India’s defeat, social media saw #MondayestMondayEver trending, as fans expressed their frustration and heartbreak. Diksha Gupta, a key contributor to the agency’s World Cup campaign, shared her reflections on the match day on LinkedIn, which left a lasting impression on the memories of 1.4 billion Indian cricket fans. Although Team India could not secure the World Cup trophy, Gupta emphasized the indomitable spirit of the players and fanbase.
Despite the demanding nature of their work during the World Cup, where numerous projects and countless meetings were the norm, Gupta noted their seemingly limitless energy. He wrote, “20+ projects, 25+ days and 90+ meetings look easy when it comes to the World Cup. I don’t know where this energy came from, but I can only say that it was World Cup cricket fever. It was difficult for me and our team to handle this loss after being completely engrossed in the World Cup campaign.”
In a surprising turn of events, a note from her supervisor, Chirag Alawadhi, and an email from HR the day after the loss brought news of a day off as a gesture of sympathy and solidarity amid the national depression.
“It was a surprise that none of us could believe until the official email arrived. Well, this one-day relaxation is not only a morale booster, it is an opportunity to recover from losses, regain mental stability and return to work with renewed energy and spirit,” shares Gupta.
The day off announcement was delivered through a WhatsApp message from the boss and an official email from HR professional, Rhea Ahuja. Ahuja shared the news emphasizing the company’s proactive approach to prioritizing employee welfare. The initiative was described as more than satisfying cricket fans among their staff. It was portrayed as a strategic move to build a values-driven culture that fosters motivation and resilience among team members.
“This morning, I woke up to a message from my boss giving everyone a day off due to the impact of this loss. It was a surprise that none of us could believe until the official email arrived. Well, this -day off is just morale. Not an enhancer, it’s an opportunity to recover from losses, regain mental stability and return to work with renewed energy and spirit. Thank you Chirag Alawadhi Boss for such a warm gesture!,” he added in the post.
