- England showed pace bowling has place in Pakistan: Team
KARACHI: New Zealand captain Tim Southee has said his team will adopt the brand of cricket that works for them and will not follow England’s aggressive style in the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan.
Speaking to the media ahead of the first Test in Karachi starting on Monday, the newly appointed New Zealand captain said the way England played against Pakistan was impressive, but they will have their way.
Southee said that the conditions in the subcontinent are very unfamiliar to them, and England played an incredible style of cricket to come here and win three Test matches. They played impressive cricket, but it was a style that worked for them, he added.
“We will try to find ways that have worked in our favor as a side and hopefully, we can put in a performance that works in our favour,” said the New Zealand skipper.
Southee added that his players are excited to tour Pakistan for the first time for a Test series.
He also shared that Pakistan A good side despite being whitewashed in recent times England.
“I think England have played some special cricket in this series; Pakistan are a very good side, as they have shown for a long time, especially in these conditions. We look forward to the challenge. It’s a new series, and I’m sure Pakistan will want to bounce back after a tough series against England,” said Southee.
In response to a question, he said that spin will play an important role in these two matches, but at the same time there will be some space for pace.
“I think when you come to this part of the world, you think spinners will have more influence than seamers, but as England have shown, there is still room for pace bowlers,” he said.
“arrangement The test group has been around for some time. It’s hard for him to get a place in the team considering the conditions we usually play in, but he’s been a real treat for us when we’ve come to this part of the world. So, he will be looking forward to come back to Test cricket and play in these conditions, which he has done well, and it is a great opportunity for Ish Sodhi to come back. I’m excited to see what he’s going to bring to the side,” he concluded.
