Moviephone: In the beginning, Maitreyi, what was going through your mind when you were shooting the last scenes of this series?
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan: I think, for me it was like being in your last day of high school or even kindergarten. It was the last day of school vibe. All my life, it has always felt like a very fast day, like the hours are passing by so fast and all this. For some reason, on the last day of filming, time felt slow. It didn’t even feel normal, it just felt slow. I think it’s because like in the past when it was the last day of school or whatever, the last day of camp, I wasn’t mature enough to really understand gratitude on such a deep, deep level. Now, on our last day of filming, I felt such overwhelming gratitude that I knew how to slow myself down, not to hit the clock and see, “Oh my God, we’ve only got two more hours” and keep ticking down. . It was just letting myself be in the moment, hearing all the stories, listening to the people and taking in the atmosphere one last time. Then I bawled my eyes out after they called the series wrap on me.
MF: Darren, how did you feel shooting the final scenes of the series?
Darren Barnett: How fast time flies. Especially when you’re in the middle of a season, when you’re in a position like Maitreyi that you’re there for hours and hours every single day. Sometimes, Jaren and I had weeks like that. Balancing life isn’t easy, it can be found that you’re kind of suffering, “Let’s get through this,” sometimes. But then at the end, I wanted to reduce it as much as possible. It was just a testimony of life. You never know what you have until it’s gone or gone. I think it all hit me at that moment. It has been a dream.
MF: Jaren, what was the final scene like for you?
Year in Louison: My motto in life is “remember the feeling” and that has been the case for me all day. I was trying to remember the feeling of the day, that gratitude, that feeling of deep joy. There were many emotions that day. But we have a small party, we had a long lunch. It was really cool because we got to celebrate with people who didn’t even work that day. There was a DJ, and we were in a dance circle, and there was different food, and it felt like a party. It felt like we were all leaving together. I think I was ready. I think I emotionally processed that it was the last day and I just wanted to remember the feeling of every part of it. Then, it hit me later.
MF: Maitreyi, what does it mean to be a part of this show personally?
Mr. I personally, of course, took away the influence of the brown woman, Devi, as a main lead. I take it so seriously because it’s such a big influence. I’ve never fully understood its implications, but I know it’s big. What excites me is that the impact ‘Never Have I Ever’ has had on the industry as a whole is only pushing for future shows to be just as good, if not better, and more realistic. Because we’re only going to get better with our content if we strive to present it in a way that doesn’t stray from authenticity and specificity. Because there is nothing wrong with specificity. That excited me. As a brown woman that really excites me for myself and for other underrepresented groups of all different backgrounds and identities.
MF: Jaren, what do you see your character doing in 10 years?
JL: I think Ben is a high caliber attorney. He’s like a trial lawyer or a corporate lawyer or something. He’s trying to work really hard to become a partner at a law firm, maybe in New York or something.
MF: Darren, what do you think Paxton will be doing in 10 years?
DB: I see, Paxton has moved to some island and is teaching people to surf and skate. Hawaiian shirts all day, but I think that makes sense.
MF: Finally, Maitreyi, where do you see your character in 10 years?
Mr. I think for Devi, whether it’s a lawyer or some kind of government job, it must be something that helps fight for the underdog and fights for people who need someone to fight for them. I could see Devi doing that. As a public defense lawyer, I could see him doing that. It would be a legitimate path for him. But I can definitely see that it’s a rocky road to get there. He is definitely not getting a job straight out of college. That’s not her. He’s going to be unemployed for a while I think. Because life is not easy for him. Life is never easy for him, and that’s okay, that’s okay. I’m okay with that. He is getting fired from so many jobs.
