coming back Paramount+ June 15, in its second seasonStar Trek: Strange New World‘ solid storytelling and week-end thriller style that worked in the first season.
It’s a welcome return for that Anson MtIts Captain Christopher Pike and the rest of the crew, who find themselves once again confronting some classic science fiction concepts while also bonding as a unit.
What is the story of ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’?
Space… the final frontier. Yes, the original begins to refrain from familiarity’.Star Trek‘ continues to define this latest take on the franchise This is the continuing mission of the Starship Enterprise as it explores strange new worlds on top, looking for new life and new civilizations, and all those adventurous things we all know so well.
For its second season, the show continues the mix of continuity and episodic adventure that worked in last year’s first episode. Primarily, it picks up a few threads left hanging from the end of Season 1 –– Lt. La’an Noonian-Singh (Christina Chong) taking leave from the ship to help a young survivor of the Gorn attack find her family, and prosecuting Starfleet First Officer Una Chin-Reilly (Rebecca Roman) to hide his genetically enhanced nature.
Once those are dealt with, it’s off to a familiar, effective mix of continuing character arcs with Spock and new science fiction adventures (Ethan Peck) has to deal with a tricky Vulcan ritual involving his potential in-laws while in a more complicated situation, Noonien-Sing engages in a time-traveling adventure, pike, Doctor M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) and their landing party is stranded on a planet where memories are erased every night and Ensign Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) in contact with aliens that communicate through dreams and symbols.
Who else appears in ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’?
Apart from the main cast, the show also features Andre Da Kim, Gia Sandhu, Adrian Holmes, Melanie Scrofano, Then Jeannotteand especially Paul Wesley A certain Captain James T. As Kirk.
Is ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ worth watching?
Moody and Sirius lead live-action ‘Star Trek’ on current TVdiscovery‘, which, although it has flashes of humor, is much more focused on drama. ‘Star Trek Picard‘ managed to find its footing in its third season in terms of mixing laughs and action, but it’s ‘Strange New Worlds’ that has emerged as a champion of blending an old-school ‘Trek’ feel with a more contemporary storytelling style.
It works so well in part because of the casting –– it’s a crew you really believe actually wants to spend time together, and that transfers into the viewing experience. These are people you’d be happy to hang out with, even if they don’t work with exciting space missions.

Pike plays with a winning mix of gravitas and relatability –– when he’s not ordering barking orders, he’s cooking or spending time with fellow captain Battle (Scrofano), a model future of how you almost wish you could act as a grown-up. Captain Kirk was taking notes.
Peck’s Spock is still a powerful, worthy take on the iconic character, with the actor capable of playing all the different shades. If Bush’s romantic connection to Nurse Chapel isn’t always as genuine as the show wants us to believe, it at least doesn’t hurt any of the characters. And he’s part of one of the comic highlights of the season so far.
Around them, the rest of the cast continued to excel. Some of the characters spotlighted last season take a bit of a backseat here (it certainly doesn’t spoil anything that Number One’s trial ends favorably, but he has less to do after that), but one welcome one sharing the airtime is some junior officer. Given to do more.
New this year is the star of stage and screen Why Carol?, who slots in as the all-new, alien chief engineer Pelias. A being with an astonishingly long lifespan, a unique attitude towards life in Starfleet and an unusual approach to it seems to have been written to portray Kane. The only downside is that we don’t get to see him interact with the rest of the crew nearly enough, at least in six episodes of season 10 given critics.
And speaking of unusual characters, we’re promised Tawny Newsom and a crossover with the animated ‘Trek’ series ‘Lower Decks’. Jack Quaid The Ensigns embody the live-action versions of Mariner and Boimler that they voice in other shows. That episode wasn’t on the list of those on offer, but let’s be honest; If any ‘Trek’ series can handle a crossover with a comedy-heavy cartoon show without suffering, it’s definitely ‘Strange New Worlds’.
The missions are a mixed bag –– some, like Episode 1, ‘The Broken Circle’, allow for a lot of fun (Spock and some of the other crew steal the Enterprise to aid one of their own riffs ‘Star Trek III: The Search for Spock‘), others ‘The Lotus’ Eaters’ memory-resetting planet feels like a well-used trope that isn’t given enough spin here.
But overall, ‘Strange New Worlds’ continues its impressive juggling act, with the dramatic and warm comedic sides still sitting comfortably in alignment. And it’s reassuring to know that, these days, there’s a style of ‘Star Trek’ for many tastes. Long may this journey continue.
‘Star Trek: Strange New’ received 8.5 out of 10 stars.
