to see Dwayne Johnson And Vin Diesel Hatchets have officially been buried — and not on each other’s backs, as some worried they might be at the height of their supposed beef.
The Wrap reportsAs Johnson himself backed up with a video, that Luke Hobbs, Burley Einman character from several entries in ‘Fast & Furious’ and spin-off ‘Hobbs & Shaw’, will return for another solo entry.
It’s not the biggest revelation, since –– spoiler alert for those who haven’t seen ‘Fast X‘ -– The character appeared in an end-credits coda scene for that film, in which Hobbes is shown being lured into a trap by the villainous Dante. Jason Momoa.
“The end of the road begins.”

And while the scene led most to speculate that it meant Hobbes would return for the next entry (All three are rumored as a concluding trilogy), it looks like he’ll be pulling double duty and doing both the new spin-off and the next movie. We’ll wait and see how well the Rock/Vin dynamic is mended before guaranteeing he’ll fully join the team.
What happened between The Rock and Vin Diesel?
The debate still rages as to whether the fallout between Johnson and Diesel was a legitimate argument or a (successfully) manufactured rivalry designed to generate press over the issue.
The two actors clashed while working together in the previous ‘!Fast and furious‘ movie, Johnson took issue with Diesel’s work ethic. The conflict between the two stars escalated in 2021 when Diesel used his personal social media channels to publicly ask Johnson to reconsider his decision to leave.
Johnson, fed up with the strategy, made his own public statement that he would not be returning to the franchise, an announcement (again, spoiler alert) lent credence by his brief moments at the end of ‘Fast X’ and now this new film.

What do we know about the new movie?
Little is known about the new movie at this point, aside from the presence of lead and regular ‘Fast’ veteran Chris Morgan in charge of the script (we can see him already hard at work with ridiculously macho dialogue and the number of ways cars/buildings/giraffes can explode. Okay , probably not a giraffe).
There is no sign of it Jason Stathamof Deckard Shaw (‘the other half ofHobbs and Shaw‘) announcement, so for now we assume he won’t appear outside of a possible cameo.
There certainly seems to be more momentum around the franchise after suffering a combination of franchise fatigue and pandemic-effect nerves about heading into a ninth movie.
‘Fast X’ opened at No. 1 worldwide earlier this month with $320 million and became the second-biggest global opening of 2023. The film opened at No. 1 in all markets where it was released, including China, and crossed $500 million in its second weekend.
Whether it ends up being called ‘Fast X Part II’, the next major entry is gearing up with the returning director. Louis Leterier for a possible 2025 release date.
