A Delhi-Srinagar SpiceJet flight on Tuesday returned to the IGI airport here due to a false alarm in the cockpit, the airline said on Tuesday. “On April 18, SpiceJet B737 aircraft operating flight SG-8373 (Delhi-Srinagar) returned to Delhi as the AFT cargo fire light was illuminated in the cockpit,” the airline said in a statement. The captain’s action later led to the lights going out, SpiceJet said, adding that before landing, all operational parameters were normal.
“Subsequent actions by the captain extinguished the lights. Subsequently, the AFT opened the cargo and found no sign of fire or smoke and based on initial assessment the alert was found to be false,” the statement added.
The aircraft landed safely and the passengers were disembarked normally, it added. A source, however, said a full emergency was declared for the SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Srinagar, which had 140 passengers on board.
“A full emergency was declared for SpiceJet’s Delhi-Srinagar flight SG 8373 at 10:40 am on Tuesday. The flight returned to IGI airport safely,” the source said.
