Several years passed quietly Cameron Crowe In terms of narrative output on the big or small screen. Although he had a great run from the time of writing’Fast Times at Ridgemont High‘ (based on his own experience of going undercover in a high school), and made hit movies’say something‘,’unmarried‘,’Jerry Maguire‘,’almost famous‘ and ‘Vanilla sky‘, he watched his latest movie,’Aloha‘ failed to connect with the audience and was criticized for some ugly racial elements (Emma Stone as a native Hawaiian just didn’t fly), and on TV, his Showtime series ‘Roadies’ (which is similar to ‘Almost Famous’ but set in the present day as opposed to the 1970s) was canceled after one season.
Now, though, after a more recent follow-up period (more on that below), it seems he’s back with a new planned film that means a lot to him.
According to Jeff Snyder of Above the LineCrowe is busy working on a film about the legendary folk artist Joni Mitchell.
Although little is yet known about the movie, it is apparently more of a stretch than a conventional biopic, driven by Crowe’s close friendship with Mitchell, whom he has known since he was a young journalist working for Rolling Stone magazine, which profiled him in 1979.

The story of Joni Mitchell
The Canadian-American musician, producer and painter was one of the most influential singer-songwriters to emerge from the folk music circuit of the 1960s and became known for his distinctly personal songs and unconventional compositions that incorporated elements of pop and jazz. During his career, he won 10 Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
His hit songs include ‘Both Sides Now’, ‘River’, ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ and ‘Woodstock’, while one of his albums ‘Blue’ is considered one of the greatest of all time.
Mitchell suffered a brain aneurysm in 2015 but recovered well enough to make a rare public appearance. Clive Davis‘ The annual pre-Grammy party, saved by Crowe.

What is Cameron Crowe doing from ‘Roadies’?
Crowe hasn’t exactly sat back from ‘Aloha’ and ‘Roadies,’ though –– he’s made a documentary about David Crosby called ‘remember my name‘ and directed the short Stevie Nicks: Show Them The Way’.
And Crowe has also been busy getting the stage musical based on ‘Almost Famous’, which is now playing on Broadway.
He is said to be working on a Mitchell movie during the pandemic but has yet to reveal what form it will take or whether different actors will play him in the film. At 79, Mitchell is as vital as ever, and involved in movies, which means Crowe should enjoy full access to his back catalog and real insight into his life and career.
With luck, this could bring Crowe back to make more movies, though as of now, we don’t know where the new film is set.
