Chris Hipkins, New Zealand’s education minister, is set to succeed Jacinda Ardern as prime minister after she announced her resignation earlier this week.
Hipkins was the only candidate for the leadership of the ruling Labor Party, which announced in a statement on Saturday morning.
“The Labor Party caucus will meet on Sunday at 1pm to approve the nominations and confirm Chris Hipkins as leader,” Labor Party whip Duncan Webb said in a statement.

Ardern said on Thursday that she would stand down in favor of a new leader, saying she did not believe she had the strength to seek re-election in the October election.
